What To Expect In A Lactation Visit
A visit from a Lactation Consultant after you have come home from your birthing facility is very in-depth and much different than a visit in the hospital. In this video, Diba explains what to expect in your first in-home or in-office lactation visit.

First-Time Visit
Takes approximately 1.5 – 2 hours
Our experienced Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) will conduct a comprehensive visit which will include:
- Mother and baby health history including birth and breastfeeding experience to date
- Physical assessment of mother’s breasts and baby’s oral anatomy
- Weight check for baby, including pre- and post-feeding weights
- A clinical evaluation of the baby’s feeding including hands-on assistance
- Pumping evaluation, instruction and flange fitting
- A written personalized care plan for you
- A written report faxed to your healthcare providers (OB/GYN, midwife and pediatrician)
Follow-Up Visit
May be necessary or desired. Follow-up visits usually take 1 – 1.5 hours and include:
- Assessment of progress
- Weight check for baby, including pre- and post-feeding weights
- Re-evaluation and updating of care plan
- A report faxed to the mother’s physician and/or baby’s pediatrician.
