Most lactation problems are best handled in person during an office visit with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC); however, some basic questions and troubleshooting can be answered over the phone. A telephone consultation is appropriate if breastfeeding is “going well” and breastfeeding issues/concerns do not require visual assessment. Examples of when a telephone consultation would be appropriate include (but are not limited to):
- Returning to work
- Introducing a bottle to your breastfed infant
- Using your breast pump effectively
- Traveling and breastfeeding
- Optimizing sleep
- Introduction to solids
Telephone consultations are billed in 15-minute increments. Payment for the telephone consultation is required prior to the initiation of the conversation. Payment can be made via this website or by credit card over the phone. Please call 512-765-9959 for questions. Once you purchase your Telephone Lactation Consultation, an email will be sent (within 24 hours) with options for available times to chat with our IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). Phone consultations are scheduled on evenings Monday through Friday and all day Saturday & Sunday. If the IBCLC feels it is necessary to see you in person to create your breastfeeding plan of care, you will have the option of applying the paid fee to the purchase of an In-Office Lactation Consultation Visit or Skype Lactation Consultation (if appropriate).
***The Affordable Care Act of 2012 requires coverage of lactation consulting as a “Women’s Preventive Service.” Many health insurance companies reimburse for private lactation consultations. Please contact your insurance provider for specifics on your insurance coverage. My Pure Delivery provides reimbursement forms to submit to your health insurance provider.***
